Painting Poor Gloss Retention For Phoenix/Gilbert Residents

Definition: Deterioration of the paint, resulting in premature and/or excessive loss of gloss.

 

CAUSES:

* Use of an interior paint for an exterior application will cause painting poor gloss retention
* Use of an oil-based paint in areas exposed to ultraviolet light, especially on a southern exposure

 

PAINTING POOR GLOSS RETENTION SOLUTIONS:

* Surface preparation for a paint showing painting poor gloss retention should be similar to that for chalking. See Chalking for more information.
* Use a high-quality, exterior, water-based latex paint, formulated to resist ultraviolet deterioration.
